At the request of the National Australian Shepherd Association, the Kennel Club has recently approved a new official DNA testing scheme for the breed. This test is for Ivermectin sensitivity MDR1, and is offered by Laboklin.

14/09/2009 - The Kennel Club Launches 'Breed Watch' Initiative to Promote Pedigree Dog Health
As part of its work to ensure that pedigree dogs lead happy, healthy lives, the Kennel Club is launching a new initiative called Breed Watch. This is the latest development in the Kennel Club’s ongoing Fit For Function: Fit For Life campaign to ensure that pedigree dogs are free from any exaggerations which might cause them to have difficulty in walking, seeing or breathing freely.

One year ago a documentary, Pedigree Dogs Exposed, was aired in the UK. The Kennel Club would like to assure dog lovers that it takes the issues raised extremely seriously and that it has acted robustly in order to safeguard pedigree health. Although the Kennel Club believes that the programme gave an very unfair portrait about pedigree health – and the action that the Kennel Club has taken over the past 40+ years - this does not minimise the importance of the issues that it raised or the seriousness with which they need to continue to be addressed.

17/07/2009 - Eradication of inherited diseases in dogs moves a step closer
The Kennel Club Charitable Trust strengthened its campaign to eliminate inherited diseases in dogs last week, as it signed its formal agreement with the Animal Health Trust (AHT), to jointly create the Kennel Club Genetics Centre and revealed some of the exciting findings so far.
